Biographical Notes on Authors
Dr. Chaker MOHAMED BEN ALI is Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign
Languages, the Faculty of Letters and Foreign Languages, University of 20th August 1955,
Skikda, Algeria. At present, he is teaching English phonetics and phonology. He has published several articles on John Steinbeck in The Steinbeck Review and Steinbeck Studies. He has also published an article “Reading Ernest Hemingway in Algeria” in The Hemingway Review. He has presented at international conferences on both Authors. Besides Steinbeck and Hemingway studies, he is also interested in Islamic studies, translation studies, sociolinguistics, and American studies. At present, he is finalizing with American professor and novelist Nicholas Taylor the translation of Algerian writer Mohamed Dib I’incendie from French to English.
Dr. Hayat AOUMEUR is Associate Professor at the Department of English at Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University. In 2015, she obtained a doctorate in sociolinguistics from Sidi Bel Abbes University. Her research interests include gender and language studies, sociolinguistics, didactics, and critical discourse studies. She has had numerous works published in international journals. She has also attended a number of national and international conferences. In her prior research, she mainly examined the relationship between gender and power relations beliefs in children’s literature, textbooks, and the media. Her studies in sociolinguistics focused on Tamazight and English in Algeria.
Dr. Djihed Messikh is Associate Professor at the University of August 20th, Skikda, Algeria who wrote a number of published studies on language teaching and learning including “A Systematic Review of the Outcomes of Using Action Research in Education” which was published by AWEJ and “Transcultural Challenges among Foreign Language Learners”, which was published by SCF Society, Turkey. She has also participated at many national and international conferences in Constantine, Batna, Biskra, Cairo (Egypt), and Turkey. She is now the president of the Scientific Committee of the Department of Foreign Languages and a member of the faculty’s Scientific Council and currently working on a PRFU project on EFL teaching at Algerian universities.
Dr. Khaled BELARBI is Associate Professor at the Department of English, Ibn Khaldoun University, Tiaret, Algeria. His journey of studies started in 1997 when he got his baccalaureate exam and went to Oran University to get a BA degree in English in 2001. In 2005, he started teaching English in the secondary school until 2013. In the meantime, he succeeded in the magister contest in 2009 and studied language management and language policy in Algeria. He got his degree in 2012 and continued for the doctorate studies at Mohamed Ben Ahmed University, Oran 2 and got the PhD in 2019. He started teaching at Ibn Khaldoun University from 2013 until today. He participated in more than twenty national and international scientific events and he is a reviewer in Faslo El Khitab Journal (Tiaret) and Altralang Journal (Oran 2), Malek Ben Nabi for Researches and Studies Journal (Tiaret), Contemporary Studies (Tissemsilt). His fields of interest are language contact, discourse analysis, multilingualism and education studies.
Prof. Ammar BENABED is Professor at the Department of English, Ibn Khaldoun University, Tiaret, Algeria. He is specialized in ESP and didactics of English. He holds the doctorates from the University of Victor Segalen- Bordeaux France and Djilali Liabes University of Belabess. After 32 year-experiences as secondary education teacher (20), and inspector (12), he got Master two from Bordeaux University and Magister from Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University of Mostaganem. Since 1993, he taught as a contract teacher of English at both Ibn Khaldoun and Ibn Badis Universities. He taught English for Specific Purposes for Commercial science students, Arabic and French languages. In 2011, he joined the English staff at faculty of Letters and Languages. Since then, he has been teaching a panoply of modules; Reading Comprehension &Written Expression, Grammar, Oral Expression, Epistemology, ESP, Lexico-semantics, Evaluation and Training Engineering. The main areas of his research concerns are directed to didactics of English, ESP, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Assessment and Evaluation, including online teaching and evaluating.
Dr. Haroun MELGANI is Associate Professor at the Department of English, the Faculty of Arts and Foreign Languages, University of Oum El Bouaghi, Algeria. He has published research papers on lexical variation and change across Chaouia speaking regions, multiple languages teaching, and Family Language Policy (FLP). He is interested in Variationist Sociolinguistics, Historical sociolinguistics, Berber (Tamazight) linguistics, Educational Sociolinguistics, ethnic networks and language change in Chaouia, and Family Language Policy. He is especially interested in how Algerian families, which vary on several regional and socio-ethnic grounds, use linguistic practices at home to rear bi/trilingual children, and how various, interrelated, sociopolitical forces shape their linguistic practices and beliefs.
Dr. Faiza Benlaksira holds a PhD in applied language studies from the University of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1. Her research interests are in sociolinguistics and dialectological studies. She is interested in Algerian dialectology in general and the Constantine one in particular. She has contributed with different works tackling the Algerian dialectology and an analysis of the variety spoken in Constantine city in Algeria.
